1985 Cold Case Murder Suspect Arrested

Charlotte, NC – Kevin B Kendrick, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in North Carolina here and Jerry Jones, Sheriff of Franklin County, announced the arrest of MICHAEL ERNEST DEBRECENY, who is wanted for the 1985 murder of his wife, LISA DEBRECENY, in Sacramento, California.

The Sacramento Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit has been reviewing the investigation with the local district attorneys office and determined there was sufficient evidence to obtain a murder warrant for DEBRECENY.  The Sacramento Police Department requested assistance from the FBI in locating DEBRECENY in North Carolina.  The Raleigh FBI Safe Streets Task Force conducted an extensive fugitive investigation and located DEBRECENY in Franklin County.

DEBRECENY was arrested without incident at 432 Eaves Rd, in Henderson. He was transported back to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and is awaiting extradition to California. The Raleigh FBI Safe Streets Task Force consists of officers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Durham County Sheriff's Office, Durham City Police Department, and the Raleigh Police Department.

Did You Know?

There are 3 basic types with standard of proof
There are essentially three standards of proof applicable in most court proceedings. In criminal and delinquency cases, the offense must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, the highest standard. In civil cases and neglect and dependency proceedings, the lowest standard applies by a mere preponderance of the evidence (more likely than not). In some civil cases, and in juvenile proceedings such a permanent termination of parental rights, an intermediate standard applies: proof by clear and convincing evidence.
